Germany restriction of MOAH notified to WTO

German authorities notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of their intention of restricting mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) in food contact materials made from recycled paper and board, under their new draft national Consumer Goods Ordinance.

The notification sets limits for MOAH migration (< 0.5 mg/kg food, or <0.15 mg/kg food simulant) for paper, board and cardboard made of recycled paper; functional barriers would be required in FCMs unless the migration can be proven to be under the limit.
