VIGC, SCGM and Service Centre launch updated certification for digital print quality

In a unique collaboration, the Flemish Innovation Centre for Graphic Communication (VIGC), the Dutch Graphic Media Certification Foundation (SCGM) and Dienstencentrum are introducing a revamped certification service for digital printing. This certification offers printing companies and LFP companies in the graphic sector a reliable quality label with which they can guarantee their customers that their digital printing meets high standards for colour quality and predictability.

Quality, measurable and objective
Since 2006, VIGC and SCGM have been certifying printing companies based on international standards. With the emergence and rapid evolution of digital printing technologies, the certification process for digital printing has now also been completely revamped. The certification procedure assesses the entire printing process: from the colour data supplied and the colour settings on digital printers to the end result on a specific substrate. Printing companies that pass the assessment receive an official certificate that is valid for two years.

‘Anyone who wants to guarantee predictable colour to their customers today must be able to demonstrate that the production process is standardised and meets the required quality standards,’ says Senior Innovation Consultant Fons Put at VIGC. ‘This certification is proof of that.’
What does this mean for graphic companies?
The new certification responds to growing market demand for quality, predictability and transparency. The certificate:

  • strengthens clients' confidence in digital printing;
  • positions the company as a quality-conscious and professional partner;
  • provides objective proof of colour consistency and technical expertise;
  • assists in tenders or the acquisition of demanding assignments;
  • supports internal quality control and process optimisation.

Concrete and practical
The procedure is accessible and clear: printing companies register their print configuration, receive a test form from the VIGC and print it according to specified conditions. The VIGC then analyses the test prints for colour differences, colour range and accuracy. Only those who meet the ISO 12647-7 tolerances for contract proofing receive the certificate.

A strategic advantage
‘This certification is not just a technical exercise,’ says John Koekenbier, director of SCGM. ‘It is a strategic tool that enables printing companies to distinguish themselves in a competitive market where quality is becoming increasingly important.’
