UPM Raflatac at PharmaPack 2015 - High-performance label innovations meeting the latest market needs

UPM Raflatac is presenting an extensive range of self-adhesive label solutions at PharmaPack 2015 on 11-12 February in Paris. The company’s renewed portfolio meets precision needs in pharmaceutical and healthcare labelling and incorporates the latest high-performance adhesives.

RP 62 EU and RP 62 EUL adhesives for directive-compliant tamper evidence

UPM Raflatac has launched a range of pharmaceutical labelling materials which support compliance with the Falsified Medicines Directive (2011/62/EU) regarding packaging for prescription drugs and high-risk, over-the-counter medicines. The Directive places two demands on pharmaceutical product packaging. It should carry a unique serial number to identify and authenticate individual products, and it should be sealed in a tamper-evident way which visibly exposes attempts to open the packaging.

UPM Raflatac’s new RP 62 EU and RP 62 EUL adhesives combined with transparent filmic label faces offer brand owners a highly effective solution which is outstandingly easy to implement. Pharmaceutical manufacturers achieve the required tamper-evidence, with no need to change the existing graphic design of their packages.

Samples of varnished cartons produced by Eukerdruck and sealed with UPM Raflatac tamper-evident label materials based on the RP 62 EU adhesive are available at both the UPM Raflatac and Eukerdruck stands.

RP 31 Purus: The new standard in migration-safe adhesion

Pharmaceutical substances are typically in prolonged contact with their primary packaging, and the ongoing shift from glass to absorption-prone plastics like LDPE requires companies to take extra care with label materials from the functionality and chemical safety perspectives.

The innovative RP 31 Purus adhesive minimizes migration risk in medical, pharmaceutical and healthcare applications. RP 31 Purus label stocks are pharmaceutically compliant (documentation available upon request) and also provide good mandrel hold on small diameters.

RP Cryo for identification labelling in cryopreservation

If biological samples in cryogenic storage can’t be identified they are practically lost forever. This negatively impacts research and forensic investigations – and also puts patient safety at risk.

UPM Raflatac’s latest label stocks featuring the RP Cryo adhesive withstand direct, long-term immersion in liquid nitrogen in temperatures as low as -196 °C. Good printability with thermal transfer enables automated sample management and helps eliminate the possibility of human error when marking by hand.

These materials also tolerate multiple freeze-thaw cycles on cryopreservation tubes without cracking, peeling or degrading – ensuring data security throughout the cryogenic lifecycle.

“At UPM Raflatac we work closely with companies in the pharmaceutical industry to stay at the forefront with solutions that meet regulatory developments and market needs,” says Markku Pietarinen, Business Segment Manager of Pharmaceutical Labelling at UPM Raflatac.

“We provide label printers and pharmaceutical manufacturers access to the latest label materials offering safe, legislatively compliant and dependable performance, and help them stay a step ahead of the market with leading-edge knowledge and innovation.”
