UPM Raflatac launches Bisphenol A and Phenol free thermal faces in Europe

(UPM Raflatac, Tampere, 05 April 2011) – UPM Raflatac has introduced two new thermal label faces in Europe: Thermal Eco Bisphenol A (BPA) free and Thermal Eco totally free of Phenols.

BPA has been widely used as a colour developer in thermal papers used for cash register receipts and self-adhesive labels applied by consumers to fruits and vegetables weighed in supermarkets. There has been public speculation over the potential risks of BPA absorbing from thermal papers through the skin, and some retail chains are seeking to remove all Phenols entirely from their cashier receipts.
“UPM Raflatac aims to be in forefront in developing products to new possible market needs. While public concern primarily over BPA in self-adhesive labels has been moderate, UPM Raflatac seeks to be proactive in all health-related issues and provide the market with a choice,” says Jon Lenck, Director for UPM Raflatac?s VIP Business Segment in Europe.

Both face materials are FSC® certified.
