Suitable for subsequent variable marking and tamper-proof: Schreiner ProTech delivers discrete labeling solution for meters

For Hydrometer GmbH, a company of the corporate division Diehl Metering, Schreiner ProTech has developed calibration labels which the customer can mark as needed. They allow the manufacturer to flexibly respond to actual demand and changes in calibration periods. The solution makes it possible to individually print meter calibration labels with the appropriate calibration year. In addition, the calibration labels are protected against tampering and counterfeiting. For this purpose, Schreiner ProTech in collaboration with Schreiner ProSecure integrated various security features in the labels.

In the past, Hydrometer either had to have surplus inventories of expired calibration labels disposed of as scrap or–shortly before the end of a calibration period–reorder very small quantities of labels to cover shortfalls, incurring high costs in either case. “The ability to print the appropriate calibration year on an individual label is more efficient for us. This way, we can avoid large residual inventories without running the risk of shortages,” says Günter Hildenbrand from Hydrometer. The marking solution from Schreiner ProTech makes it possible for the company to quickly and flexibly provide calibration labels with the required information using thermal transfer printing. To ensure compliance with governmental requirements for stickers documenting the initial or re-calibration of metering equipment, Schreiner ProTech implemented the specifications issued by the Bavarian State Office for Weights and Measures.

To prevent an illegal transfer of calibration labels to other metering equipment, Schreiner ProTech additionally integrated several tamper-evident features in collaboration with the counterfeit protection experts from Schreiner ProSecure. “Once the label has been applied to the equipment it cannot be detached and re-applied due to the integrated void effect,” says Michael Lamke from Schreiner ProTech. Inspectors can definitely verify the authenticity of the labels. For authentication purposes, the ink contains a special pigment the presence of which is demonstrated by a corresponding reader. This security feature is invisible to the human eye.
