Springfield Solutions Installs Second HP Indigo WS6000 to Expand Capacity and Enhance Leading-Edge Product Range

Deployment of second HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press is UK First

HP today announced that Springfield Solutions of Hull, UK, has installed its second HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press to help increase production capacity and expand its range of added-value digital packaging solutions.

This second HP Indigo investment also gives Springfield Solutions the status as the first UK company site to install two HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Presses. Along with its HP Indigo WS4500 installed in 2008, Springfield Solutions now boasts the largest installed capital base of industrial webstream technology in the UK.

"This is not about counting machines on the shop floor; it's about expanding our ability to provide added-value decoration solutions to our clients," said Albert Dass, chairman, Springfield Solutions. "With the growing packaging portfolios of our clients and with print-run lengths continuing their downward trend, the role that digital print can play in providing cost effective packaging print solutions is exploding exponentially. Digital print genuinely allows us to sell "solutions".  Its deployment allows us to provide opportunities for working capital reduction, personalisation and flexibility, as well great quality print."

Focused on print innovation and increasing the role of digital print in the packaging decoration market, Springfield Solutions installed its first digital press in 1996. Since then, the company has remained a key player in the digital packaging industry, with installations of the HP Indigo WS4000, WS4050, WS4500 and now two HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Presses.

"The efficiency and speed of the WS6000 relative to its predecessors made our investment decision for a second press remarkably easy. We enjoy a great relationship with HP and the WS6000 press is proof that its machine development programme is in tune with the needs of packaging decorators. Our make-readies are even better than before, our print speeds have doubled, preventative maintenance is easier and the machine has a low environmental impact versus anything that we have used before. It ticks a lot of boxes," commented Dass.

The HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press operates at up to 30 metres per minute for 4-colour jobs, and produces up to 90,000 square metres or up to 300,000 linear metres per month from numerous jobs, utilising single daily shifts. The press supports repeat lengths of 317 x 980 mm - efficiently using each frame of the substrate and reducing media waste.

With the new HP Indigo WS6000, Springfield Solutions is progressing a range of new product developments that will enable the company to offer its clients a wider variety of decoration options.

Dass concluded, "Digital printing for packaging applications is not a case of "plug it in and print". We are always working to develop the quality of our digital print service with continuous improvements to our management and administration systems, our colour management technology and protocols, our pre-press operations and our maintenance strategy, to ensure that our clients enjoy a world class experience when choosing to work with us.

"When it comes to opportunities for innovation in the packaging sector, the development of digital print production is critical. HP's constant advancements in digital print technology provide us with the means to drive our business forward and maintain our forward-thinking approach to packaging decoration."
