Jaakkoo-Taara Oy adopts truly digital workflow with Xeikon

Finnish packaging printer Jaakkoo-Taara Oy chosen to create a truly digital workflow from order to final product with Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite.

The specialist in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and food industry invested in Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite with a Xeikon 3500 digital press to add digital capabilities to its existing offset and flexo production. 

Founded in 1935, Jaakkoo-Taara Oy aims to be a pioneer in both service and technology. It employs 115 people and its annual turnover is €16.5 million. Each year it prints more than 20,000 packaging and printed projects. 

Thomas Brusila, Managing Director of Jaakkoo-Taara Oy explains: “We wanted to produce high print quality combined with increased efficiency and the ability to produce both cartons and labels. The new system will enable us to introduce serialized pharmaceutical packaging and personalized packaging and labels. With digital we can also easily produce security and tamper evident features and we think we will be able to add value by offering that.”

Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite, offers a ready-to-use package, making it easy to configure an efficient and cost-effective set-up for the digital production of folding cartons. It is ideal for high quality cost-effective short runs of folding cartons and labels. Jaakkoo-Taara Oy’s system includes a Xeikon 3500 that prints at up to 600 m²/hr in 5-colours. Its fifth colour station can be used to apply special colours and effects.

The suite offers a basic press configuration equipped with 5th colour in combination with CMYK. The extended colour gamut ensures the accurate production of a wider range of brand colours. The 5th colour could be orange, red, blue, green, or white. Colour management is made easy by cloud-based Xeikon Colour Control. Jaakkoo-Taara Oy can also offer digital spot varnish with Xeikon’s Durable Clear Toner for scuff and scratch resistance and UV or water based varnish.

Brusila continues: “We liked the fact it gave us the possibility to introduce a highly automated digital workflow that will enable us to increase our output efficiency. We can reduce errors and be faster and better. Streamlining production allows us to have a more collaborative approach and we can also be more flexible with how we work with our customers.”
