HERMA self-adhesive materials: Films on the up and up

• Multi-layer adhesives improve the processing properties of film label material.
• Accordingly, HERMA further expands its film range.
• Latest innovations are two PP films for labelling flexible containers and a PO film for applications with laser printers.

Innovative adhesives based on multi-layer technology are contributing to significant growth in the films segment of HERMA's adhesive materials division as well. "The multi-layer concept allows us to overcome challenges that have generally arisen in the past when processing films. We have thus been able to lower substantially the risk of adhesive bleeding. Likewise, the level of contamination of the cutting dies is significantly reduced in the case of films with a multi-layer adhesive," says HERMA managing director Dr. Thomas Baumgärtner. "For all label printers, these are important considerations. This has made itself felt for some time now by way of increased demand for our film label material." Accordingly, HERMA is pressing ahead with the further expansion of its film range. The result is two new poly¬pro¬pylene (PP) films and a new polyolefin (PO) film which are available with immediate effect.

Excellent die-cutting and dispensing properties
The PP grades are glossy, biaxially-oriented films with a special surface for good printability. They are available in two versions: HERMAflex transparent (grade 833) and HERMAflex white (grade 843). Both films offer superior die-cutting and dispensing properties thanks to their structure. Having undergone corona pretreatment, they achieve high print quality with all conventional printing methods. Due to their extreme adaptability, they are ideally suited for the high-end labelling of flexible containers such as those used for cosmetics, body care and household cleaning products. But they can equally be used in the food sector, for example, since they comply with the relevant EU regulations concerning contact with food.

Ideal for black-and-white and colour laser printers
The other new addition, HERMA PO Laser (grade 801), is a white, matt, filled polyolefin film. It was specially developed for use with both black-and-white and colour laser printers. In conjunction with suitable inks, its matt surface delivers high-quality printed images with all conventional printing methods. In combination with the adhesive 64Z and 64B the HERMA PO Laser (grade 801) received additionally the certification BS5609 Section 2 for marine use. HERMA PO Laser label sheets are particularly suitable for labelling drums or pallets.
