Herma: New 42E adhesive tailored for plastics

Perfect peel-off

  • Introducing the easily removable label adhesive 42E, HERMA extends its product range by an all-rounder especially suited for plastic surfaces.
  • The new adhesive is designed for use with a wide range of paper and foil materials.
  • Moreover, the 42E has been granted unconditional approval for direct food contact.

The development of residue-free peel-off adhesives for labels remains a special challenge – especially when a wide range of use as well as good tack and peelability are required. Self-adhesives materials expert HERMA has now developed the peel-off adhesive 42E, a solution for various very different plastic surfaces, some of which are not easy to label. The 42E is ideally suited for instance for transparent thermoplastics, PET, polyethylene foils and bottles, food packaging made from polypropylene and polystyrene, and ABS, which is often used in the automotive and electronics industries as well as in household electronics due to its impact resistance. Labels coated with 42E can be easily peeled off of these surfaces without leaving any residue. “Plastics are used in an increasing number of special applications. For such purposes, the 42E is a veritable all-rounder, allowing us to better cover many important fields”, says Dr. Ulli Nägele, HERMA's head of development. “With this adhesive, label printers and users receive a maximum of flexibility, since it can be combined with a wide range of paper and foil materials.” Not least, the adhesive also has the ISEGA certificate for direct food contact on dry, moist, and greasy surfaces – without any restrictions. Therefore, there are no obstacles to its use in the food industry, e.g. in seal labels or special labels for marketing campaigns.
