“Gallus Short Run Days” generate great interest

The first “Short Run Days”, which took place on 10 and 11 April 2014 at Gallus in St.Gallen, were all about short-run narrow-web label printing. The event focused on the entire process involved in short-run production with variable data and met with great interest from participants who had travelled to St.Gallen from all over Europe.

Live demonstrations showcased the Gallus ECS 340’s extended range of applications and provided a detailed look at the user benefits of the new “Plus” update package. The extremely fast job changes that can be achieved with this machine went down particularly well, as did the screen printing unit and the intuitive and straightforward operation of the machine control system’s touchscreen interface.

The Gallus ECS 340 shared the spotlight with the Linoprint L digital label press and the Gallus ECS C near-line converting system. The “Gallus Short Run Days” focused on short runs with fast job changes and virtually no paper waste. The Gallus near-line solution provided impressive proof of the benefits of combining high-resolution digital four-colour inkjet printing with conventional high-performance finishing.

The workshop programme was rounded off by an expert forum with specialist presentations on the following topical issues: “The future of inkjet-based digital printing for professional label printers”, “The key factors influencing flexographic printing” and “The latest MIS workflow software” – delivered by Belgian company CERM, complete with operating data acquisition.

“The printing profession’s steadily growing need to handle short runs and runs with variable data is placing greater demands on printing systems in both conventional and digital production,” explains Vice President Sales & Marketing Christof Naier. “Today’s label presses need to support flexible, high-quality and cost-efficient production of short and/or variable label runs. The “Gallus Short Run Days” offered participants the opportunity to find out everything they need to know about working with short runs in label printing and meeting the ever tougher market requirements with the latest know-how, relevant background information and a reliable partner at their side,” he adds.
