FINAT-GIPEA Congress and FINAT label competition 2011

FINAT/GIPEA Congress and Label Competition 2011

The Hague, The Netherlands – February 18, 2011 – FINAT, the world-wide association for the self-adhesive labels and related products, introduces the entry and participation details of the thirty first edition of its international labelling competition and the provisional programme of its annual congress which will take place in the Hilton Giardini Naxos in Taormina, Sicily (Italy) from 8-11 June 2011.

Congress 2011 Theme: 'Embrace Change, Enjoy Success'

Under the theme 'Embrace Change, Enjoy Success', the congress will invite leaders from the self-adhesive label industry to participate actively in the dialogue about change. This year's edition is in close collaboration with the Italian label association GIPEA. As always the congress is the ideal platform for members (existing and new) to meet and network with their peers, learn from best practices and get inspired by thought leaders from and beyond the labelling industry.

"We take pride in hosting this year's congress in the beautiful setting of the mount Etna and the Ionian see," says Alfredo Pollici, GIPEA President, who will talk about the trends in the Italian label market. After two years, current FINAT President Andrea Vimercati will hand over his presidency to a newly elected president during the congress. Full programme will be made public soon.

FINAT Congress Winner

In order to encourage the next generation of graphic designers, FINAT has for the past three years organised a congress logo competition. Several colleges and universities from the host country Italy were invited to submit entries from their students on the theme "Embrace Change, Enjoy Success". More than 125 entries were received from six teaching establishments. Many entries focussed on the fact that Taormina is located near the sea and included components of historic importance to the area. "The element on which I worked can be found in the detail of the fountain which is located in the Piazza Duomo in Taormina. The sea horse, which is obviously a mythological allegory, is one of the most famous statues in the city. My design includes the silhouette of the horse against the background of the Sicilian sun with a curved line symbolically connecting the sun and the sea. Finally, the whole composition is held together by the congress slogan," comments Claudio Vinci, winner of this year's contest.
