Beontag, Global Experts in Smart Tags and Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives, opens new state-of-the-art facility in Tampere, Finland

Beontag, one of the world’s leading providers of pressure-sensitive adhesives and smart tags such as RFID and NFC, today announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility in Tampere, Finland. The opening ceremony was attended by Luis Balduino, the Ambassador of Brazil to Finland, and Ilkka Sassi, Deputy Mayor of Tampere, who together officially welcomed Beontag to the Tampere site.

The opening marks the final stage of an initial investment of US$40 million in the region, with plans to invest further in machinery and equipment to match Beontag’s global expansion ambitions. The facility houses 50 employees and expects to grow its workforce by 15% to 20%, with a focus on engineering and research and development roles.

The Tampere site will be Beontag’s Global R&D Center of Excellence, with a pilot factory developing product innovations for a range of digital tag solutions, including BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) tags,  supporting Beontag’s work in a diverse range of industries. This marks the next step in Beontag’s global expansion, following the announcement of a major new facility in Ohio, USA, late last year.

In 2022, Beontag acquired Confidex, a leading provider of RFID applications, wireless IoT solutions, and transport ticketing. Confidex boasts major automotive, logistics and consumer brands as customers. Previously, Beontag acquired the RFID business unit of Digital Tags Finland (then Stora Enso), developer of plastic-reducing Eco RFID Tag technology. The new facility combines the diverse resources and specialized expertise of both organizations to support Beontag’s role as a global business enabler in smart tag technologies.

By establishing this best-in-class facility in Tampere, Beontag bolsters the city’s long-held reputation as a major hub for RFID technology, building on the region’s legacy of wireless technology academia and industry, established in the 1990s.
