AI-backed software from Esko named winner of prestigious French packaging innovation awards 2023

Esko, the global developer of integrated solutions for the print, packaging, and label industries, has been crowned winner in the Printing and Digital Technologies category of the 2023 packaging innovation awards for its AI-backed Phoenix software.

The team will be presented with its award within the Innovations Space at the 2024 ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE exhibition, held in Paris, November 4-7.

Esko Phoenix was praised for its technical innovation and named the winner in an awards ceremony organized by Infopro Digital and held at the Élysées Biarritz, Paris. An AI-driven preproduction software for packaging and labels, Phoenix reduces waste by delivering powerful CAD-based nesting and imposition for sheetfed and roll-fed carton and label production.

“Phoenix rethinks the planning and imposition process, unlocking productivity improvements with a seamless interface between prepress and production data,” explained Jan De Roeck, Esko Director of Marketing, Industry Relations & Strategy. “From the energy crisis and the erosion of margins to material shortages and labor and skills deficits, there are many significant challenges for businesses today,” said Jan. “The role of technology and innovation is key in surmounting these challenges.

Phoenix is a modern sheet and web layout optimization program. It brings a new approach to step-and-repeat, based on the actual print and finishing production equipment capabilities on the shop floor, it enables users to plan faster and smarter combination calculations, reducing press changeover and makeready.

“Featuring intelligent algorithms for sheet layout, estimation and planning, the introduction of Phoenix underlines Esko’s commitment to delivering innovations that accelerate the go-to-market process for consumer-packaged goods. With Phoenix, Esko continues to provide tools to help converters do the job better, faster and more efficiently.”

Delivering intelligent distribution, a simple drag and drop interface, out-of-the-box CSV integration and a user interface that allows users to make the rules, Esko Phoenix is built for packaging professionals, by packaging professionals.

“We are delighted that this innovative prepress solution has been recognized by such a highly regarded French awards program, recognizing the effort that goes into delivering meaningful improvements and driving operational efficiencies at outstanding value for our customers,” added Jan. “ We are looking forward to attending the ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE exhibition in 2024, where we will receive our award, alongside winners of other prestigious global packaging award programs.”
