ABG paddlers get ready for charitable Dragon Boat event

A 20-strong team from leading print finishing equipment manufacturer, A B Graphic International (ABG), is taking part in the annual York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge, held on the River Ouse on 12th September.

The team, aptly named the ‘Average Boating Gang’, will be raising funds for Bridlington CYP, a Bridlington-based charity who provide a wide range of sports, activities and opportunities for all within the local community, regardless of economic background.

The event, which has been held every year since 2003 (except 2020 due to the pandemic) and has helped raise £1.2m for charities over that time, will feature 32 teams competing for the Challenge Trophy and other prestigious awards, such as the fastest charity team, fastest armed services team, and a ‘best dressed team’ trophy, which ABG won in 2019, having also reached the final.

For this year’s race, the team has been training hard at nearby Welton Water Adventure Centre and are hoping for success at the event. There will be 16 paddlers taking part in the race, together with a drummer who sets the pace.

“Our participation in this year’s Dragon Boat race reflects the best of working life at ABG - fun with colleagues, an ambition for high performance, all while supporting the local community. Please wish us luck this year!” said ABG’s Matt Burton, global sales director.
