Key themes at Labelexpo Europe 2025, automation and sustainability, should be at the top of every label and packaging converter’s agenda. Andy Thomas-Emans reports.

The FINAT European Label Forum (ELF) 2025 has once again affirmed its status as the premier annual meeting point for the global label industry. Held in Amsterdam from 21–23 May, the event brought together a record number of 240 delegates from 26 countries, reflecting the enduring spirit of collaboration and innovation that characterises the FINAT community.

LMAI, the labels Manufacturers association of India organised a panel discussion titled, “Label buyers’ challenges with quality, Sustainability & Innovation” on the 2nd of May 2025 at Hotel Radisson Blu, New Delhi.

The judging of this year’s FINAT Label Competition took place under the new chairmanship of Z. Murat Sipahioglu, Heidelberg Turkey. After long years of chairing this prestigious event, Anthony White and his wife Connie decided to retire. The panel now consists of Messrs Z. Murat Sipahioglu, and fellow judge Steve Wood, both with more than 15 years’ experience and in-depth technical knowledge of the processes used in the label industry; two newcomers with technical expertise in their own right within the label industry: Phil Baldwin (BOBST, UK) and Fahri Ilazi (Kocher+Beck, DE), and Mick de Reuver from FroQ Brandservices BV (NL) who provided his marketing experience.

From this year Labelexpo Europe will be expanded to include folding carton technology. Andy Thomas-Emans, Strategic Director at Informa Markets Labels & Packaging Group, explains how Labelexpo is evolving.
