New self-adhesive material from HERMA - Exquisite solution for wine labels

  • For the first time, HERMA is offering a self-adhesive material intended specifically for wine label producers.
  • Thanks to innovative multi-layer technology, it passes the "ice bucket test" with distinction and offers excellent converting properties.
  • The textured and coated papers, aluminium papers and films in the HERMAexquisite range provide an abundance of design options.

The business segment encompassing self-adhesive labels for wine bottles is a challenging but growing market. Against this background, HERMA is using its innovative multi-layer technology to produce a special self-adhesive material for wine labels. The most compelling feature of the new HERMAexquisite range is its special 62W adhesive. Alongside other attributes, it offers outstanding adhesive properties in the cool and damp conditions in which wine bottles are regularly stored. In addition, the adhesive passes the especially rigorous "cooler test" with distinction. Even after prolonged submersion in a wine cooler, the labels remain attached to the bottles. HERMA's multi-layer technology enables label manufacturers to enjoy this benefit without any compromises, insists managing director Dr. Thomas Baumgärtner, "The excellent adhesive properties go hand in hand with equally outstanding convertibility. These benefits are achieved because we apply two different layers of adhesive at the same time. We can thus very accurately control both the adhesive and the converting parameters independently."

Labels sell wine
The HERMAexquisite range embraces a broad variety of high-quality label materials. It primarily contains various textured and moisture-proof papers, but also includes coated papers, aluminium papers and films. This variety, which has become an essential component of successful wine marketing, gives rise to an abundance of design options. "At the point of sale, the decision to buy a particular bottle of wine is made almost exclusively on the basis of the label," explains Dr. Baumgärtner. "It's no wonder that self-adhesive labels are becoming more and more popular. Not only are they more economical to produce in relatively small quantities, but their look and feel can exert a very favourable influence on the sales success of the wine."
