HERMA joins plastic recycling initiative RecyClass

The circular economy of plastics is of key importance for European economies and businesses to achieve their sustainability goals. As a technology-leading specialist in self-adhesive materials, HERMA has now joined RecyClass as a Platinum Member.

This is a comprehensive cross-industry initiative that drives the recyclability of plastic packaging whilst at the same time promoting the traceability of plastic waste and recycled plastic content in Europe. HERMA joins the more than 100 RecyClass members, which include global players such as Aldi, BASF, Bayer, Ferrero, Nestlé, L’Oreal and Pepsico.

„As a cross-industry initiative, RecyClass brings together players from the entire plastics value chain to optimise the recyclability of plastic packaging and the uptake of recycled plastics,” explains Dr. Stefan Kissling, Head of Adhesive Coatings and Special Coatings. To this end, RecyClass not only offers robust certifications, but is also working on the development of scientific testing methods for innovative materials.

The testing results are included in the RecyClass Design for Recycling Guidelines and the free RecyClass Online Tool. The latter provides manufacturers and users of plastic packaging with a quick assessment of the recyclability of their packaging and guidelines on how to improve it. "RecyClass conveys knowledge and creates both transparency and trust, thereby providing reliable orientation for all players. We are very proud to be an active member of the RecyClass community," emphasises Dr. Stefan Kissling. "We are very interested in using the expertise of the RecyClass community to further develop our product portfolio and to use it to advise our customers. After all, our aspiration is to be truly sustainable. Finding ways to make materials even more resource-friendly and recyclable is essential to reach this goal." “RecyClass is also pleased to have on board another member with profound application knowledge, both about the use of recyclable plastic films and film labels,” emphasises Paolo Glerean, Chairman of RecyClass. “HERMA is a leading European player in the field of self-adhesive materials, we are extremely proud to see them engaged in the journey towards circular plastics."
