Japanese MPS customer Takara Pac wins 2015 World Label Award
MPS customer Takara Pac was recently named award winner in the Flexo Color Process category of the 2015 L9 World Label Awards competition for their label ‘Cherry Body Soap’. The winning label of the Japanese company was printed on an MPS full servo 8-colour flexo press.
Designed with a cartoon fairy-tale effect, the ‘Cherry Body Soap’ label is especially appealing to children with its half die-cut stickers (squirrel, butterfly and cherries) which can be peeled off the label and reapplied elsewhere. With a challenging die-cut shape, the label has a narrow band that extends to the top of the product. Printed on PET 35 through delam relam, the label received an application of glue adhesive on the first station, silicon varnish on the second, and the material was glued together with a white 50 substrate on the third station. It was then printed with four CMYK colours and finished with cold foil gold and UV adhesive on the last print station.
Winners of the 2015 L9 World Label Awards competition were selected from entries in 22 classes including flexography, letterpress, offset litho, combination printing and digital printing technologies. L9 is an alliance of global label associations for the purposes of formulating policies and gathering strategic information in connection with global matters affecting the worldwide label industry. The label competition took place over 2015 and the winners were recently unveiled in 2016.
Since its inception 24 years ago, the World Label Awards has grown into a truly worldwide international competition. The associations taking part in 2015 included FINAT (Europe), TLMI (USA), JFLP (Japan), LATMA (Australia), SALMA (New Zealand), PEIAC (China), and AMETIQ (Mexico). The awards are seen within the global label industry as the technical Oscars which many label printers aspire to win.
Previously in 2012, Takara Pac received the prestigious ‘Supporter's Association of Chairman's Award’ at the 22nd Seal and Label Contest on behalf of The Japan Federation of Label Printing Industries (JFLP). The winning label entitled “Tuki No Shizuku” (Japanese for “moon dew”) was also printed on the same MPS flexo press.
Takara purchased their MPS full servo 8-colour flexo press in 2011 to increase production capacity and to upgrade quality standards supplied to their Japanese customers. The press has a high degree of automation due to built-in MPS innovative technology including Automated Print Control (APC) to set print pressures automatically, automatic register control, and the iControl press control system.
